Kraniche in der Abendsonne

Um Kraniche zu fotografieren, fahre ich im März oder Oktober auf den Darß, eine Halbinsel an der Ostsee. Die durchziehenden Kraniche rasten dort und fressen sich satt, um dann zu den Brut- oder Überwinterungsplätzen weiterzuziehen.
Im Herbst findet man sie tagsüber auf den abgeernteten Maisfeldern. Zum Schlafen fliegen sie dann in die Boddenregionen – flache Wassergebiete in der Ostsee, wo sie vor Fressfeinden geschützt sind. Der Abendeinflug in die Schlafplätze und der morgendliche Abflug größerer Gruppen von Kranichen ist ein beeindruckendes Schauspiel. Das begleitende lautstarke Trompeten der Vögel ist ein wunderbares Konzert, das weithin zu hören ist.
Manchmal hat man Glück und der Himmel präsentiert sich beim Sonnenuntergang in prächtigsten Rottönen. Die Kraniche zeichnen sich dann als Silhouette vor diesem Himmel besonders schön ab.

To photograph cranes, I travel to the Darß, a peninsula on the Baltic Sea, in March or October. The migrating cranes rest there and eat their fill before travelling on to their breeding or wintering grounds.
In autumn, they can be found in the harvested maize fields during the day. To roost, they then fly to the Bodden regions – shallow water areas in the Baltic Sea where they are protected from predators. The evening flight into the roosts and the morning departure of larger groups of cranes is an impressive spectacle. The accompanying loud trumpeting of the birds is a marvellous concert that can be heard from afar.
Sometimes you are lucky and the sky turns a magnificent shade of red at sunset. The cranes then stand out in silhouette against this sky.

Pour photographier les grues, je me rends en mars ou en octobre sur le Darß, une presqu’île de la mer Baltique. Les grues en migration s’y reposent et s’y nourrissent à satiété avant de poursuivre leur route vers les lieux de nidification ou d’hivernage.
En automne, on les trouve pendant la journée dans les champs de maïs récoltés. Pour dormir, elles s’envolent ensuite vers les bodden, des zones d’eau peu profondes de la mer Baltique, où elles sont protégés des prédateurs. L’arrivée dans les dortoirs au crépuscule et le départ matinal de grands groupes de grues est un spectacle impressionnant. Les clameurs trompettantes qui les accompagnent forment un magnifique concert que l’on entend de loin.
Parfois, on a de la chance et le ciel se pare de somptueuses nuances de rouge au coucher du soleil. La silouhette des grues se détache alors du ciel.
