Beschreibung

Der Kiebitz wurde in Deutschland zum „Vogel des Jahres 2024“ gewählt worden. Während einige Kiebitze inzwischen in Deutschland überwintern, verbringen andere als Zugvogel den Winter in Südeuropa.
Den Kiebitz treffe ich sehr oft an der Nordsee – er ist ein Küstenvogel, der einen so markanten Ruf hat, dass sogar ich ihn inzwischen erkenne. In der Balzzeit macht er atemberaubende, akrobatische Flugmanöver – es ist toll, einfach zuzusehen. Er hat ein schillerndes Gefieder und eine Haube auf dem Kopf, die im Wind hin und her weht.
Kiebitze brüten auf dem Boden, brauchen dazu niedriges Gras. In Norddeutschland gibt es Projekte, durch Rinder oder Wasserbüffel die Gräser kurz zu halten, so dass der Kiebitz dort brüten kann.

Lapwings breed on the ground and need low grass to do so. In northern Germany there are projects to keep the grass short using cattle or water buffalo so that the lapwing can breed there.

Je rencontre souvent le vanneau en mer du Nord. C’est un oiseau côtier qui a un cri si distinctif que même moi, je le reconnais maintenant. Pendant la saison des amours, il effectue des manœuvres de vol acrobatiques à couper le souffle – c’est formidable à regarder. Il a un plumage irisé et une huppe sur la tête qui flotte au gré du vent.
Les vanneaux se reproduisent sur le sol et ont besoin d’herbe basse pour ce faire. Il existe des projets en Allemagne du nord visant à garder l’herbe courte en utilisant du bétail ou des buffles d’eau afin que le vanneau puisse s’y reproduire.
